Local Law 152 Gas Piping Inspections in New York City
Local Law 152 requires a gas piping inspection every four years on every New York City building except one- and two-family homes. A Local Law 152 inspection must be signed and sealed by a Licensed Master Plumber. Community Districts 4, 6, 8, 9 and 16 are due by December 31, 2026.

How the inspection runs
1 · We notify DOB two business days ahead. Required by law, and the step most owners don’t know exists.
2 · A Licensed Master Plumber walks the building — or a Registered Journeyman under direct and continuing supervision. Point of entry, meters, boiler and mechanical rooms, corridors, exterior areas, roof.
3 · We test the exposed piping for leaks, and check for illegal connections, non-code conditions and corrosion.
4 · You get the GPS1 within 30 days, signed and sealed.
5 · We prepare the GPS2 for you to file with DOB inside 60 days.
If we find something, we can fix it
This is where most inspections stall. If the inspection turns up a condition, you have 120 days to correct it and certify the correction. An inspection-only outfit hands you a list and leaves you to find a contractor — in December, alongside every other building in your district.

Buildings due this cycle have until December 31, 2026. After that, the next round is 2030. Every building in Districts 4, 6, 8, 9 and 16 is working to the same date, and the last quarter is not the time to be looking.
